Why are we in the "alternative sentencing software" business?  Locking people up is the easy part - bringing them back to the society is far more difficult.  Perhaps, in addition to building jails and prisons, we should invest in a better reeducation system, better diagnostic tools and build a far better alternative sentencing infrastructure.  Steve Earle, a singer whose life – in his own words – was saved by the judge who locked him up in 1994 on drug charges, put it like this:  We keep forgetting that most of the people who go to prison don’t get executed and don’t stay there for life, and eventually come back to the society.  We build all those jails that make them more vicious and then unleash them on ourselves.
